In The Media » Jonathan Bullock MEP - Best selling car in the world to be made here in the East Midlands
JONATHAN Bullock MEP has hailed the news that the world's best-selling car will continue to be made in the East Midlands.
He was speaking after Toyota announced it will be making the next-generation Auris, (which will now be called the Corolla), at its Burnaston factory.
Production will start this year, carrying on to Brexit and beyond.
Mr Bullock, MEP for the East Midlands, said: "This move is part of Toyota’s decision to globally adopt the Corolla name for all cars it makes for mid-sized family cars.
"This means we can state that the best selling car in the world, the Toyota Corolla, will be built here in the East Midlands, after Brexit.
"The path to Brexit has been slow thanks to this Government - now everyone, including many who voted to remain, want us to get on with it and this news from Derbyshire shows just what can be achieved.
"The doom and gloom forecasts from two years ago did not materialise – but we still see 'Project Fear 2' being ramped up by desperate 'remainers'.
"The example of Toyota illustrates this - it has given a vote of confidence in the UK and stated it will thrive post-Brexit.
"Let us get behind the country and have confidence in the skilled workforce we have, our technologies, our trading abilities - we are leaving the EU. The doom and gloom merchants were wrong before and they will be wrong again."
