In The Media » Jonathan Bullock MEP - letter on local elections
To The Editor,
Much has been said about the 'collapse' of the UKIP vote in the recent local elections.
I cannot deny the results were disappointing and we lost some very good councillors but it is not the clear-cut doom and gloom many people have commented on.
In many areas we achieved between five and seven per cent of the vote, which is a significant step up from last year's general election and let us remember that the percentage difference between the Conservatives and Labour nationally is about five per cent - with these figures in mind UKIP can still make a difference.
The establishment may want us gone but we are still there and as MEP for the East Midlands I know we can still play a crucial part as we move towards Brexit.
Lastly, can I also say thankyou to all those who stood and and all the volunteers who helped - and of course, those voters who have stayed with us.
Jonathan Bullock, MEP for the East Midlands
