In The Media » Jonathan Bullock MEP - Pubs are not simply places to drink - they are integral to the local communities they serve
To The Editor,
I was interested to read this week how campaiagners have launched a fresh push to save the British pub trade.
My party has long been calling for action to help save the Great British Pub and the latest survey from Camra, (Campaign for Real Ale), reveals that 8 pubs EVERY week are closing down.
The tiple whammy of rising business rates, VAT and high beer duties have led to wave after wave of closures.
Campaigners have now said the Government can use Brexit as a chance to ease the problems. I agree.
Pubs are community hubs at the heart of British culture and Brexit means we can now update our tax systems to help support them.
Pubs are not simply places to drink - they are integral to the local communities they serve. I hope the Government will follow the lead of UKIP and help save The Great British Pub.
They are important to communities and for social cohesion and of a benefit to the national economy and tourism.
I would urge your readers to look at the Camra campaignCamra campaign and help landlords fight back!
Jonathan Bullock, MEP for the East Midlands.
