In The Media » Jonathan Bullock MEP - The job of politicians now is to get on and enact a clear, full Brexit
I read with interest an article on MPs appearing to have lost the respect of a large chunk of the electorate over Brexit.
The survey quoted showed the disatisfaction at the way politicians have conducted the Brexit debate.
I think the survey is another reminder of the inate common sense of much of the electorate, certainly when compared to that of Westminster!
It clearly illustrates the frustrations found across the East Midlands region, not just in Derbyshire - in 2017 both Labour and the Conservatives stood on platforms to deliver the Brexit the region voted for in the 2016 referendum.
Over the past six months we have seen politicians try to wriggle out of their commitments to the public. It is no wonder people are frustrated.
The survey shows want politicians to act - there is no demand for a general election, or a second referendum and no matter how many times the Orwellian term 'Peoples Vote' is used, it does not convince. We have already had such a vote.
The job of politicians now is to get on and enact a clear, full Brexit which allows the country to move forward. They risk the contempt of the people if they fail to do so.
