Tory betrayal means UK will still be giving billions to Brussels for years to come
JONATHAN Bullock MEP has said that due to Tory betrayal and the never-ending transitional period, the UK will still be giving billions to Brussels for many more years to come.
In a hard hitting speech speech in the EU Parliament in Strasbourg yesterday, (Wednesday), the East Midlands UKIP MEP attacked the use of the EU Council's budget.
He said: "Thank goodness Brexit will mean we will no longer be giving vast contributions to Brussels - but because of the Tory betrayal and never-ending transitional period, the UK will still be giving billions to Brussels for many more years to come.
"Let us take a look at some of the frivolous spending - the council spent 55,000 Euros holding a staff party for up to 1,200 people on is premises earlier this year.
"This party included, butlers, cooks, bartenders and servers, a three-course meal, champagne, wine and barrels of beer for a bar which was open until 3am.
"It also spent another 25,000 Euros for the staff and their children to have a party at Durbury Adventure Park in Belgium and in previous years the council put out a tender to purchase 4,000 bottles of champagne.
"There should be more transparency and oversight over the use of the EU Council budget. It begs the question, does the council have something to hide?
"It's no wonder the council doesn't want parliamentary oversight of its budget.
"The EU institutions are public entities paid for with taxpayer's money. It is outrageous that British taxpayers' have to pay for such vain and frivolous events, while at home we have frontline public services cut."
